Renew your sincere intention

  1. Renew your sincere intention

In Islam, a Pure, faithful intention to seek Allah’s pleasure should be at the core of any religious act.

As memorizing Quran requires a lot of time and effort, you might feel drained and depressed, especially when it turns out to be a habit and lose its intrinsic purpose.

For this reason, you’ve had to remind yourself that you do what you do to appease Allah and get the virtues he promised for people who memorized his holy book.

  1. Prepare your environment

The environment surrounding you have a great impact on your memorization capacity. A cluttered place full of distractions will negatively reduce your focus and slow down your Quran Hifz.

So, before you memorize Quran, ensure that the place you sit in is clean, organized, and void of any triggers that might drive your intention away, like Television noise, mobile notifications, or the nuisance of your siblings.

If you share your room with someone and can’t fully control your environment, choose times when all leave out or fall asleep because it guarantees you can continue your memorization flowingly.

  1. Dedicate a specific time to memorize

If you don’t specify a specific time of your day to memorize the Quran, you’ll probably end up not doing it at all.

Choosing the best time vary among different people. Pick out the most suitable for your schedule.

It’s preferable to do it At Figr if you’re the type of person who wakes up early as in this time, the mind is still fresh, and when you start your morning with such a noble religious act, you will fill abundance and blessings during the rest of the day.

  1. Set realistic milestones

The best Quran memorization technique is to split up your ultimate goal into far smaller, reliable milestones.

Suppose that your target is to memorize the holy book in one year, then you’ve to calculate your monthly and daily memorization rate which, in this case,  amounts to 20 pages per month (1.5 pages per day),  given that the Quran consists of 30 Juzs.

After defining your daily rate, draw a chart where you can write the weekdays on one column and your memorization portion on another. For exmple: Saturday, page 50, surah al Baqrah. Do this for all the months.

Setting achievable millstone and revising it each day will draw a clear picture of what you’ve done, enable you to check your progress, and put out a validation plan when you drail out of your track.

  1. Listen to the Quranic verses on Radio

Listening to the part of the Quran you’ll memorize will help you in many ways.

  1. First, you’ll get the correct pronunciation for each word and letter in the verses, helping you to avoid Lahn or great mistakes.
  2. Excessive exposure to the same verses multiple times fixes their recitation into your memory, which facilitates the memorization process later

To gain the most out of listening to Quranic verses, choose reciters you feel more comfortable listening to, then pause the sound of each verse and recite it aloud. Also, you can use a tap recorder for your voice to compare your recitation and that of the reciter.

Other than deliberate listening, turn the radio on every morning and let Quranic verses slip into your ears. Even if you’re not too alert, this unconscious listening makes memorization easier and creates a rather affiliation between you and the Quran.

  1. Recite what you’ve memorized in Prayers

There’s no use in memorizing the holy book if you don’t plan to recite it in Prayer. Also, no proper way you can test your memorization other than the five prayers ordained by Allah.

To this end, try to mix some of the recent verses you fully memorized with what you’re already with. Even if you’ve made mistakes, don’t worry. There’s no sin in it.  However, After each prayer, grab your Mushaf and notice if you’ve made any egregious mistakes and where. In the following Salat try not to repeat it.

  1. Stick to one Mushaf

Adhering to one Mushaf greatly enhances Quran memorization.

First, having your copy of the Quran means that you can secure it neatly without bothering about someone taking it or shuffling its pages around.

Second, and most important, eyes have a role in the memorization process as ear or voice.

By reading from one mishap, your eyes get familiar with the font size, color, page margins, and the entire page layout, generating a kind of affinity and comfort you sense when memorizing the holy book.

  1. Alternate between memorization and revision

An old rule says that whatever isn’t revised is forgotten, and in several experiences Hafizs let slip a great deal of the Quran they memorized in childhood because they were lazy revising it.

Thus, on a separate chart, make your revision plan after identifying your revision rate, pages needed to be revised, and days to revise it.

Make sure that revision times don’t collide with that of Quran memorization, and start with the early parts you memorized.

  1. Use repetition techniques

The more you repeat, the more solid your memorization will be. When memorizing, repeat each verse five times before moving into the ensuing one. After memorizing five verses, repeat that thread five times before moving into another one.

Anyways, find your repetition technique that will bear the greatest fruits for us and stay consistent with it.

  1. Understand the meanings of hard verses

Apart from its countless religious rewards, learning the meaning of the verses is one of the very effective methods of Quran memorization.

When knowing the interpretation of the verses and the events surrounding their revelation, you can easily link them to each other and recall them later.

If you're non-Arabic, we advise you to know some Islamic terms found in Quran, like Tamim, Jihad, Zakat, and Tawbah in its original language. It helps immensely.

  1. Recite Out loud

A recent study found reciting Quran in a high pitch sound is more powerful and dynamic in remembering.

A flurry of studies conducted by Colin MacLeod found a correlation between reading aloud and improving memory. Participants recalled the texts and terms they had read aloud more than those they read secretly.

MacLeod has referred to this phenomenon as the productivity effect since uttering words audibly contributes to their persistence in your memory.

  1. Write the verses on flashcards

Many students forget parts of the Quran no matter how much they have tried to make it. If you are among them, no worry. There's a pretty solution to this problem.

Flash cards are colorful sheets of paper used as a memorization method.

For making the most of this tool in the learning process, grab some cards, jot down down whatever verses you often misremember, and pin it up on the frontier walls.

14. Pay Attention to Similarities

Allah said in Surah Al Zamr

Allah has sent down the fairest discourse – as a Book, similar (and) oft-repeated verses that shiver the skins of those apprehensive of their Lord. Then their skins and their hearts soften to the Remembrance of Allah”

Similarities in Quran pose a great challenge. The Scared book teems with many analogs similar in words or meanings, which can cause confusion and overlap.

For unknotting this entanglement, Notice similar verses when reciting and highlight them in your notebook. They might share the same start or end. If you're interested in resemblances in Quran, read more books, such as 1- Durat Al-Tanzil wa Ghurat Al-Ta’wil by Al-Khateeb Al-Iskafi.

15. Start with the surahs you love

Undoubtedly, memorizing the surahs you love will inflame your zeal and drive you to erupt into action, especially in the beginning when you are at your highest need for a push to kick off.

The surahs you habitually listen to are easy to memorize.

I still remember that I started with Al Najm, and it took me only a day to complete because most of its verses stand familiar to me.

If you have no plan, start with the shortest surahs in part 30. That's also enough to boost your momentum.

16. Be patient with Quran Hifz

As Quran hifz is not an overnight success, you should be patient.

Whenver lose your grit, ask Allah for help. Make dua at night and plead for Him to steer you, protect you and provide you with a strong will and focus So you can keep it up.

Remind yourself about your noble goal and that Great thing are hard to accomplish, yet when they come ture, they bring the greatest fulfillment.

Whenever you fully absorb that, your journey will start to blossom.

17. Join Memorization groups

As human beings are social creatures, they need to be surrounded by people to reduce their feelings of isolation.

Being with like-minded people who share the same goal as you not only mitigate the feeling of loneliness but also spurs your competitive spirit to make more effort to outperform them.
